New classes to inspire taste for learning

Surrey County Council launches new autumn adult learning brochure

As Surrey County Council Adult and Community Learning (ACL) launches a new autumn brochure, adults across Surrey are reaping the benefits of learning for fun. Over 850 autumn courses across 85 subjects are available from September. Ranging from garment making, art courses, Spanish and Bollywood dancing to English as a Foreign Language (EFL), the Surrey County Council ACL courses aim to appeal to a wide range of interests and abilities.

To herald the start of the new academic year, Surrey County Council ACL has also invested in redecorating and refurbishing many of the adult learning centre buildings and classrooms over the summer.

The new autumn brochure features popular courses such as cookery, as well as some new additions including ‘Dance Fitness Fusion’, ‘Around the World Cookery’ and ‘Italian - Level 1/2 Fast track’. Also, there are new Friday morning courses including ‘French Conversation Level 5/6 Croissant and Coffee’, Architecture and Art History lectures and ‘A Celebration of English Authors.’

Paul Hoffman, Adult Learning Manager at Surrey County Council, says: "As children go back to school and the summer holidays are behind us it’s important for adults to think about their own needs. Learning a new subject or skill in a group is fun because it’s interactive and dynamic. These courses enable people to pursue a leisure interest, meet others and gain new knowledge and skills."

With courses available in the day, evenings and on Saturdays, people from all walks of life will have the chance to try their hand at something new. With an emphasis on improving well-being, the courses help individuals and families develop their abilities, provide cultural experiences and stimulate their minds and creativity.

The courses start in September, range in length from an hour to 12 weeks, and places can be booked now.
