8 July 2010, Milton Keynes – IMServ, a leading data, carbon and energy consultancy and part of Invensys Operation Management, has announced its BillVerify service in response to inaccurate energy bills. The new service was created following the result of the IMServ commissioned Datamonitor* research. The research found that 26% of large site energy managers had received inaccurate billing and in most instances the energy companies were shown to be overcharging rather than undercharging.

CA Group wins contract to provide roof and walls to Southwark Integrated Waste Management Facility

17th June 2010: OVO ENERGY - the UK’s fastest growing energy company – is the first national energy supplier to offer monthly interest rewards to customers who build up a credit balance on their accounts, it was announced today, Thursday 17 June.
In a bid to give customers a fairer, more transparent deal, the newcomer to the energy market will credit customers with a reward equivalent to three per cent interest per annum.
Each time customers receive a statement – which is monthly or quarterly depending on what they have requested – the reward for the corresponding period will be automatically credited to their account. The scheme will come into effect from 1 July 2010.
Stephen Fitzpatrick, managing director and founder of Ovo Energy, said: “A big driver behind setting up Ovo was to give customers a better, fairer deal. But offering consistently competitive prices and doing our utmost to make sure direct debits are set at the right level isn’t enough. We think it’s only fair we pass on any interest we’ve earned on customers’ credit balances, and that we reward people for prepayment.”
One of the biggest sources of complaint within the industry is the setting of direct debit levels and companies holding customers’ credit balances. Consumer groups have long campaigned for energy companies to deal more fairly with customers.
Mr Fitzpatrick added: “To make sure it’s as fair and simple as possible, we’re offering monthly interest rewards rather than making a one-off calculation on an end of year balance, when customers are less likely to be in credit.”
Whether on a fixed or variable tariff, customers are more likely to build up a credit balance during the summer when households use less energy, and to draw down on that balance during the colder winter months as energy consumption increases.
Maria Wardrobe, Director of Communications for National Energy Action (NEA), the national fuel poverty charity, supports Ovo’s scheme: “In encouraging customers to pay monthly this initiative is a welcome move. At NEA we know that budgeting for energy bills helps protect customers from falling into debt which is essential in the current economic climate.”
While not connected to the Bank of England’s base rate of interest, Ovo’s reward rate will reflect market conditions. Ovo’s reward rate is set until the end of 2010 and will be reviewed every six months thereafter.
The one cap on the scheme is that customers can only pre-pay for a maximum of one year’s energy supply.
Mr Fitzpatrick said: “Even as a relatively new company in a market place dominated by long established, larger players, we can set the standard in offering a fairer deal for customers. We put what customers want – cheaper, greener, and simpler energy - at the heart of what we do and we hope people will continue to vote with their feet and switch to Ovo.”

As Green fumbled the ball, women were online playing with Bingo balls!

DIGITAL INFRARED BREASTSCAN IMAGING SHOWS PROMISE FOR BREAST CANCER DETECTION IN WOMEN UNDER 50

CAMBRIDGE, 19 MAY 2010: New research conducted at the Cambridge Breast Unit, Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge, shows that Digital Infrared BreastScan (DIB) in combination with standard mammography provides cancer detection sensitivity of 89%1. New data announced today in the European Journal of Oncology Surgery shows that a combination of DIB with mammography increases cancer detection rates in women under 50 years of age, indicating that dual imaging is a potential way forward for breast cancer detection in this younger age group. The results validated Digital Infrared BreastScan against mammography – the ‘gold standard’ – and showed that when the two technologies were used together that the sensitivity increased by 11% (89%) compared with mammography alone (78%).

Rentokil appoints BOTTLE PR

  4 February 2010
Guardian Professional appoints BOTTLE PR to promote must-attend public sector events
Guardian Professional, a commercial division of Guardian News & Media, has appointed BOTTLE PR after a competitive pitch to provide strategic and tactical PR support across three individual events. Smart Healthcare Live, SmartGov Live and The Public Procurement Show, all aimed at public sector professionals, will be taking place at ExCeL on 15th and 16th June 2010.

This is the first time that Guardian Professional has appointed a PR agency to assist with exhibition promotion, and the aim is to raise awareness of the three brands and to drive footfall through to the events.

BOTTLE PR will be re-positioning the new ownership of the events under The Guardian brand, which has unrivalled reach into the public sector visitor audience. Social networking will be a key platform for the campaign with BOTTLE PR’s consultants looking to proactively engage with public sector professionals via LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook and to create networking groups to publicise these key events.

Associate Director, Karen Cooper, who is leading the Guardian Professional account for BOTTLE PR says: “The public sector is already using social networking in new and exciting ways with a plethora of professional online communities using it to support them on an everyday basis. They were, after all, one of the first areas to create user groups and online collaborative content.

“We will use social networking communities including Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn to communicate the latest show news including new speakers and exhibitors and to generate interest to a wider community that we’re unable to reach via traditional methods.”

Karen continues: “Developing the role of social media in public relations is becoming increasingly important and we must ensure social media is incorporated into all PR

The British Swimming Pool Federation makes a splash with SPATEX - The Pool, Spa & Lifestyle Show

Following a competitive pitch, award-winning BOTTLE PR has been appointed by Pool Industry Promotions (PIP) on behalf of the British Swimming Pool Federation (BSPF) to raise its profile in the wet leisure industry sector using online and traditional print and broadcast media relations. BOTTLE PR will also work on raising awareness of its member organisations, the Swimming Pool and Allied Trades Association (SPATA) and the British and Irish Spa and Hot Tub Association (BISHTA).
The marketing and PR brief also includes support of key events in the industry diary including the annual SPATEX pool, spa and lifestyle show and the BISHTA and SPATA awards.

“Feel good factor is all important to the Christmas shopping experience”
Tim Ogle, Retail EyesMilton Keynes, UK, 16th November 2009 – Retail Eyes, specialists in improving customer experience in the retail, leisure and hospitality sectors, has today released research that shows that Christmas shopping on the high street is still the nation’s preferred choice when compared to Christmas shopping online. From a sample of 4,905 shoppers in the Retail Eyes survey, 73% of shoppers claim that festive spirit and atmosphere are the most enjoyable aspects of shopping on the high street.
The Retail Eyes survey reveals that 52.9% of shoppers will do the majority of their Christmas shopping on the high street compared to only 28.2% online. The survey showed that the number of people undertaking the majority of their shopping online will increase in 2009 compared to 2008 by only 2.3%.
“Based on our research, it seems very unlikely that the mass exodus to online shopping will materialise as predicted this year and Christmas shoppers will, in the main, remain loyal to the high street,” said Tim Ogle, CEO of Retail Eyes. “A big part of Christmas shopping is getting in the festive spirit and customers can really only achieve this if they are physically going into stores to shop. Hearing ‘Last Christmas’ and seeing the in-store displays and the town’s Christmas lights all add to the unique experience of shopping at Christmas. Getting the festive ‘tone’ right in store is critical to enhancing the customer experience and increasing revenue.”
The Retail Eyes survey also shows that shoppers this year are not intending to hold out until the last minute to secure a bargain. The survey revealed that 48% of respondents have already started their Christmas shopping and only 6.5% are intending to leave it until the week before Christmas.
This evidence supports Sir Stuart Rose’s market prediction just a few weeks ago when he declared that M&S would avoid blanket sales this year: “Last year [consumers] were sitting with their backsides on sofas watching the television with their mouths open ... We intend to trade at full price this Christmas.”
Swine flu is expected to have little impact on shoppers this Christmas - 96% of shoppers said the threat of swine flu would have no impact on their choice to shop in-store as opposed to online.
However, the worst thing about Christmas shopping on the high street is the queues. According to the Retail Eyes survey 44% of respondents said this was the most frustrating thing about Christmas shopping in store.
“Queuing is also part of the Christmas shopping experience; however, it is well known that Brits are prepared to queue for something they really want. As long as staff are trained to manage queues effectively and maintain good communication with their customers then it doesn’t have to be a problem. It’s all about turning negatives into positives and keeping customers happy.” Tim comments.

Exhausted nation on the brink of a meltdown

13 October 2009
Customer service research company, Retail Eyes, asked BOTTLE PR to help them put together a customer research survey that would lead to greater press coverage during National Customer Service Week.
Amanda Politzer and Verity Blake, who are handling the Retail Eyes account for the Oxfordshire PR agency, put the success of the survey down to early involvement with BOTTLE PR to help develop the questions, to create a story with multiple news hooks and angles to appeal to different media targets.
Questions that made it into the survey directly as a results of BOTTLE PR’s advice included, “Are customers prepared to pay more for good customer service?” To which the response was that 7 out of 10 respondents said ‘Yes’, they would pay more for good customer service – an angle that was of particular interest to the national press.
Retail Eyes has collated the data from two main sources; an internet survey of more than 6500 people who were asked specific questions about customer service, and a the results of more than 138,000 mystery shopping visits across the UK. This made for a robust survey of customer service perceptions all over the country, that spanned a number of industry sectors and regions. BOTTLE PR developed tailored press releases for the retail, restaurant, bar, supermarket and hotel sectors to appeal to the trade press and created seven different regional press releases to focus on different parts of the country highlighting the best and worst performing towns in the UK for customer service.
Politzer commented: "By tailoring the survey results into a press release that is of interest to the press in each sector, in many regions across the country, we were able to secure phenomenal media coverage. The survey results were only released last week and we’ve already had over 70 items of press coverage including two pieces of television broadcast coverage and seven radio interviews with our client."
So far, press coverage generated directly from the Retail Eyes customer research survey includes The Times, Daily Express, Management Today, BBC Look North, You & Yours on BBC Radio 4, Morning Advertiser, utalkmarketing.com, eatoutmagazine.co.uk, drinksbusiness.co.uk and The Publican. The success of the survey combined with other press work undertaken by BOTTLE PR on behalf of Retail Eyes means that BOTTLE PR has succeeded in securing press coverage in all of Retail Eyes’ Top 20 target publications list in just two months of working together. Retail Eyes is delighted with the coverage as it has been instrumental in raising the brand profile in their target markets.

ICT innovator, European Electronique, selects BOTTLE PR to raise it's brand awareness in the public

With the recent excitement over the Monaco triumph for Britain's 23-year-old Lewis Hamilton, a Learning and Skills Council (LSC) ‘expert class’ was timely for motorsport engineering students at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuits on Friday. Offered as part of the LSC’s ‘From Competence to Excellence’ programme, the ‘Motorsport Engineering’ class, run at Silverstone Racing Circuits, offered 18 young engineers expert training sessions on the world famous F1 Grand Prix Circuit. Oxford & Cherwell Valley College Performance Engineering Centre joined forces with Silverstone Grand Prix Circuits and Turweston Aerodrome to run a series of seven national expert class events in Motorsport Engineering. The penultimate event took place on Friday 30 May at Silverstone Grand Prix Circuits where a team of budding engineers were tasked with preparing Van Diemen-built Formula 1st racing cars used to train budding Formula 1 drivers and diagnosing problems with the cars in the pit lanes. The day taught them how a race car is set up, communication skills with the driver and what is expected of them when working in a F1 pit garage. Evers Pearce, Motorsport Development Manager at Oxford & Cherwell Valley College said: “We are training young people to work in Motorsport Engineering from Formula 1 teams to the companies making the parts for the winning cars, and the expert classes are the ideal way to teach them best practice. “The all-day sessions have enabled learners to gain the experience of the work of a Race Technician, diagnosing and solving engineering problems live on the racing circuit. The days have been a full-on, eye-opening experience, and we have seen some real talent shining through. The trainees have a great future ahead of them.” Two former Oxford & Cherwell Valley College students Chris Dymond, now a driver for Ascari, and Danny Hands, a driver for Historic Formula Fords tested the students work on the Silverstone circuit. They debriefed the learners on the car's performance on the track and suggested areas to consider changes and ways of rectifying problems. 17-year-old Michael Burge said of the experience: “Being able to put into practice what we learn in the workshops at the Performance Engineering Centre has been fantastic. I have especially enjoyed working in the pit garages on the Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit where F1 cars run from. I have been offered an Apprenticeship with a race team and the expert class gives me a head start as I can show I have supported a vehicle on the track.” Peter Ford from Silverstone Grand Prix Racing Circuits said: “It’s vital that motorsport businesses and colleges continue to join forces to help develop the high-level skills we need for the industry in the future. Silverstone believes very strongly in assisting and encouraging young people into motorsport, and here at the circuit we run an Education Centre specifically built to partner with schools nationwide.” There are currently 240,000 Apprentices working in over 130,000 organisations in England alone, across 80 different sectors of industry. Apprenticeships are also increasingly being recognised and used as a pathway to university, often part time and with financial support from their employer whilst they continue to work. Bob Walding, LSC’s Area Director for the Thames Valley said: “The LSC believes that this programme will help Apprentices and vocational learners to take their skills to world-class levels to move from being competent to excellent. The classes also allow trainers to develop better links with employers and really promote expert skills across a range of industries.” The last Motorsport Engineering expert class event is due to take place at Turweston Aerodrome in two weeks time. -ends- Notes to editors:For further information about expert classes please contact Gail Buckle or Kirsty Shaw at BOTTLE PR on 01865 882988 or go to www.fcte.co.uk About ‘From Competence to Excellence’Expert classes were held throughout the South East last week, to give the cream of the crop of this year’s Apprentices the chance to develop advanced skills. Over 5,000 Apprentices have attended LSC expert classes throughout the South East in the past six months. They are designed to give the cream of the crop of this year’s Apprentices the chance to develop advanced skills. The From Competence to Excellence programme is a stepping stone for participants, helping them move from learners to experts. With the UK WorldSkills event on the horizon, some of them may even become future entrants to the UK WorldSkills Event in London in October 2011.

Solar is here to stay and young Apprentices get the edge

The programme includes an overhaul of the website, new collateral and an ongoing influencer and media campaign to raise awareness of the benefits of learning throughout life.
