The RES Group, one of the world’s leading renewable energy developers, wanted to mark Global Wind Day on Friday 15 June 2012 with an event as its UK headquarters in Kings Langley, to showcase its commitment to wind energy as a secure, clean and cost effective option for current and future generations.
Here in the UK, the windiest country in Europe, more than 300 wind farms power nearly four million homes a year. It’s predicted by the end of the decade that wind farms could be providing as much as 12% of global electricity demand. Global Wind Day is a day to celebrate the power of wind energy to provide clean, safe and secure energy for millions. More than 200 events took place in over 40 countries around the world to mark the day.
With BOTTLE’s help, a day of public engagement and media-facing activities was scheduled. This included 120 local school children unfurling a banner to reinforce the message of wind energy being an integral part of Britain’s future energy needs. The day also included a visit from local MP, Mike Penning, an award ceremony for local AS Level students who completed a six month engineering project with the RES Group and media briefings with Ian Mays, CEO of the RES Group.
