Twitter is a social network and microblogging service in which users can send text-based messages of up to 140 characters to each other. Messages are publicly visible and can contain links to web pages, images, videos and other resources. Twitter also features a private messaging service. Users may subscribe to see others’ messages, which is known as following, and subscribers are known as followers. As of February 2011 there were over 200 million users.
