CASE STUDY:  first:utility

BOTTLE PR was appointed by first:utility due to a limited industry profile and public awareness. BOTTLE PR’s objective was to improve the brand’s profile and recognition with the general public, position the company as a consumer champion, position the first:utility energy saving smart metering proposition as innovative and forward-thinking, explain the benefits of smart metering.

BOTTLE PR worked to create a newsworthy story around the launch of first:utility’s energy saving electricity tariff. A full media launch ensued, which was planned and executed by the BOTTLE PR team and resulted in securing media briefings with all the key national energy writers, plus selected key trade publications.  BOTTLE PR also pursued high-profile national broadcast outlets such as The One Show, Channel 4’s Dispatches and BBC Watchdog to outline the consumer benefits of smart metering, and the fact that first:utility was the only business to offer the service in the UK.

Other specifically selected media opportunities were secured to reinforce the ‘Challenger brand’ status that first:utility wished to foster in line with their positioning as a consumer champion.

“Just wanted to add my own thank you and appreciation for all the effort expended the last few weeks and months and that I am very happy to have Bottle on board to support and advise us through the coming year.”
Mark Daeche, CEO, first:utility

“BOTTLE PR worked on raising the profile of TONI&GUY’s co-founder and Chairman Toni Mascolo for his OBE, and we have been really impressed by the speed of delivery, the friendliness of the team and their professionalism.  BOTTLE PR clearly has a knack for interpreting and bringing more to a creative brief and to date, we are stunned by what has been delivered in a month – from radio to live TV, through to national press editorial.”
Carolyn Whitehorne, Head of Product PR & Communications, TONI&GUY

CASE STUDY: Ark Continuity

Ark Continuity is one of the leading data centre developers in the UK. Over the past ten years the company has been developing a new data centre campus in Wiltshire and by summer 2009 was ready to launch, as the most environmentally-friendly data centre in Europe.

BOTTLE PR was brought in at relatively short notice to start a PR programme, supporting the company as it made its first announcement to the trade that it had a new model of data centre.

Working closely with the CEO and COO, the team at BOTTLE PR put together a comprehensive PR programme ahead of launch in September.

With a very complex message in a competitive but little understood market, BOTTLE PR first had to work on clear, consistent messaging, from which the entire marketing team could work – from in house sales through to graphic designers.

Ark was key sponsor for GovNet’s Government ICT Goes Green. BOTTLE PR had to work quickly to organise a sponsor’s dinner, where key industry contacts would hear about Spring Park (the data centre campus) for the first time, along with some of the ground-breaking environmental innovations being introduced by Ark.

We work closely with GovNet to ensure the right contacts were invited, including key media, and with the design agency to deliver brochures, pop up stands, an exhibition display, to write the after dinner speech and manage the process of creating a keynote address at the conference itself.

Alongside we prepared the media launch, which went out live on the first day of the conference. Key trade titles picked up the story and this has been followed up by one-to-one briefings, site visits, telephone interviews, article submissions and comment pieces over the past three months. In addition, we organised one-to-one briefings with a select number of key industry analysts, resulting in positive reports and comment.

The strategy is being reviewed in January for the coming year and will include all PR elements, from events through to stakeholder relations, in order to position Ark Continuity as a leading ‘green’ data centre provider.
